KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) -The comeback of Javy Lopez may have ended when the Atlanta Braves sent the catcher and six more players to their minor league camp on Saturday.
Jo-Jo Reyes was among the players optioned to Triple-A Richmond.
The 37-year-old Lopez said he hasn’t decided if he’ll go to the minors. The three-time All-Star hit only .188 this spring in his attempt to become Brian McCann’s backup.
The Braves also reassigned pitchers Francisley Bueno, Jorge Campillo and Ryan Drese to Richmond and outfielder Jordan Schafer to Double-A Mississippi. Outfielder Brandon Jones, one of the top contenders to be the team’s fourth outfielder, was optioned to Richmond.
