SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -Right-hander Ben Sheets will be the Milwaukee Brewers’ opening day starter in Chicago on March 31, manager Ned Yost said Saturday.
It will be the sixth opening day assignment for Sheets in seven years. Sheets did not start on opening day in 2006 because he was on the disabled list following shoulder surgery.
“It’s still a rush (to pitch on opening day),” said Sheets. “Believe it.”
Yost also said he would follow Sheets with veteran right-hander Jeff Suppan in the second game against the Cubs. Yost said he had not decided how the rest of the rotation would work out.
