PHOENIX (AP) -Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun will remain with the United States at the World Baseball Classic despite hurting a muscle on the right side of his ribcage during the Americans’ 9-3 win over the Netherlands.
Braun left Sunday night’s game in the eighth inning. Braun said the injury wasn’t serious and he wanted to play for the U.S. on Tuesday. Brewers management decided Monday he will stay in Miami.
The injury is on the same side Braun hurt when swinging during a game last Aug. 9. Braun took six games off from that ribcage injury.
The 25-year-old All-Star hit .300 with 30 homers in 114 games before the injury, but went .238 with seven home runs in the final 37 games and had only eight extra-base hits in September.
