PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Pat Burrell isn’t with the Phillies anymore, yet the City of Brotherly Love is still close to his heart.
The former Philadelphia slugger took out large ads in two of the city’s largest newspapers Friday to thank the fans for their support during his nine seasons with the club.
Burrell left town after helping the Phillies win their first championship since 1980. He signed in January with the Tampa Bay Rays, the team the Phillies beat in the World Series.
In the advertisements in The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Daily News, Burrell thanked the fans for sharing a championship parade with him.
But the new American Leaguer said he hopes to see them again in October – at World Series time.
