KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) -Jeff Francoeur is showing signs that he has found his power stroke.
The Atlanta Braves outfielder hit a two-run homer and just missed a second in an 8-4 win over Venezuela on Thursday.
Entering the game with only one hit in 11 at-bats this spring, Francouer homered in the third and followed with a long fly ball that was kept in the park by a strong wind.
Braves manager Bobby Cox said that’s the kind of power he’s been looking for from Francoeur, who batted only .239 with 11 homers and 71 RBIs last year.
Venezuela plays Italy in its first game in the World Baseball Classic on Saturday in Toronto.
Garret Anderson was 0-for-4 in his first exhibition game with the Braves. He played most of the game in center field.
