PHOENIX (AP) -Oakland pitcher Justin Duchscherer will get a second opinion on his sore right elbow, and it was uncertain whether he’d be ready to begin the season.
“His opening day start is definitely in jeopardy,” A’s manager Bob Geren said Wednesday.
Duchscherer had an MRI exam Tuesday and it showed no significant damage. A doctor recommended the two-time All-Star rest his arm for a week.
Duchscherer will visit Los Angeles Angels team doctor Dr. Lewis Yocum. The pitcher has yet to appear in a spring game.
The Athletics ace has been on the disabled list four times in the last three years. He was 10-8 with a 2.54 ERA in 22 starts last season, and was 0-3 in his final seven starts.
