ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -Andruw Jones appears to be close to a minor-league deal with the Texas Rangers.
Jones was released by the Los Angeles Dodgers last month. According to several media reports Sunday, the deal will be announced this week.
The five-time All Star won 10 straight Gold Gloves with the Atlanta Braves. He was injured part of last season and hit only .158 with three home runs and 14 RBIs in 75 games with the Dodgers. He had knee surgery in May. He asked to be traded but the Dodgers found no one interested.
A call to Rangers general manager Jon Daniels was not immediately returned Sunday.
The Dodgers owe Jones $22.1 million, which he’ll receive over the next six years.
