ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -Former American League Rookie of the Year Eric Hinske agreed Thursday to a minor league contract with the Tampa Bay Rays.
The 30-year-old infielder spent last season with Boston, batting .204 with six homers and 21 RBIs in 84 games. He also played in all three rounds of the postseason with the Red Sox, appearing a total of three games.
A .255 career hitter in six seasons with Toronto and Boston, Hinske was the Rookie of the Year in 2002 when he hit .279 with 24 homers and 84 RBIs for the Blue Rays.
