ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -Kelvim Escobar, an 18-game winner for the Los Angeles Angels last season, has a sore shoulder that will limit him at the beginning of spring training.
The Angels said Wednesday that the 31-year-old right-hander has experienced discomfort in his shoulder and was rehabbing in Tempe, Ariz., where pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report next Wednesday.
“We are moving forward cautiously with Kelvim,” Angels general manager Tony Reagins said in a statement. “We are hopeful that the shoulder irritation dissipates during his rehab.”
The Angels said an MRI taken by Dr. Lewis Yocum showed no significant changes in Escobar’s shoulder. Escobar was 18-7 with a 3.40 ERA in 30 starts for the AL West champions last season.
