WASHINGTON (AP) -Japanese left-hander Katsuhiko Maekawa agreed to terms with the Washington Nationals on a minor league contract Tuesday and will be invited to spring training.
The 29-year-old Maekawa most recently pitched for Orix of the Pacific League in 2006, going 1-7 with a 5.26 ERA.
The Nationals also announced that right-hander Enrique Gonzalez was claimed off waivers by the San Diego Padres. Gonzalez was designated for assignment by the Nationals on Jan. 31, making room for newly signed catcher Johnny Estrada on the 40-man roster.
The Nationals claimed Gonzalez off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks in September. The 25-year-old Gonzalez was 8-10 with a 5.14 ERA in 27 starts at Triple-A Tucson in 2007.
