SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -Juan Uribe and the San Francisco Giants agreed to a minor league contract Thursday with an invitation to spring training.
Uribe batted .247 with seven homers and 40 RBIs for the Chicago White Sox last year, losing his starting job at second base to Alexei Ramirez early in the season. Uribe also can play shortstop and third base, where he filled in for Joe Crede last year.
Uribe has 111 homers in eight big league seasons with Colorado and the White Sox. He is a solid fielder who could back up newcomer Edgar Renteria at shortstop or youngster Pablo Sandoval at third base for the Giants.
