A person familiar with the negotiations says right-handed reliever Casey Janssen and the Washington Nationals have agreed to a one-year contract with an option for 2016.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity on Wednesday because the deal had not been announced.
Janssen was a free agent after spending his entire big league career with the Toronto Blue Jays, going 29-24 with 90 saves and a 3.52 ERA since 2006.
The past three seasons, as Toronto’s closer, he collected a total of 81 saves, including a career-high 34 with a 2.56 ERA in 2013.
In 2014, Janssen finished with 25 saves in 30 chances and a 3.94 ERA.
