CINCINNATI (AP) – Billy Hamilton set a Reds rookie record by stealing 56 bases, tied for second-most overall in the major leagues last season. He also wore down as the months wore on, with his hitting and stealing taking a big dive.
So his major goal this offseason is to get stronger.
Hamilton has been lifting weights and working with a Reds coach on his bunting and his stealing techniques in the offseason. He got caught stealing 23 times last season, an unacceptably high number.
Manager Bryan Price says Hamilton will be paying more attention to picking his spots to steal this season. He’s also hoping that his leadoff hitter can be better for a full season the second time around.
