SAN DIEGO (AP) -Free-agent catcher Henry Blanco and the San Diego Padres agreed to a $750,000, one-year contract on Wednesday.
“We were able to get an experienced catcher with considerable postseason experience,” general manager Kevin Towers said. “Henry is a clubhouse leader and a good, veteran catcher who mentored National League Rookie of the Year Geovany Soto in Chicago. We look for him to do the same this year with Nick Hundley.”
A backup most of his career, the 37-year-old Blanco hit .292 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in 58 games for the Chicago Cubs last season.
