On a night of tricky hops, Ichiro Suzuki and the American League also bounced back to win.
Instead of a Barry Bonds splash shot, the defining hit at Tuesday's All-Star game was Suzuki's inside-the-park home run, the first in the game's history.

Guerrero Wins Derby

With Barry Bonds sitting out, this derby was dry - and Vladimir Guerrero was San Francisco's home run king for a day.
The Los Angeles Angels slugger won the Home Run Derby on Monday night, hitting 17 homers and beating Toronto's Alex Rios 3-2 in the final round of the All-Star competition.

A questionable strike call helped the Atlanta Braves hold on against the team with the best record in the NL.
Closer Bob Wickman came into the bottom of the ninth with a four-run lead against the San Diego Padres, and escaped with a 5-4 win Sunday night after Marcus Giles took a called third strike to end the game with runners on first and second.

Tigers Build Momentum

The Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox are both streaking into the All-Star break - in dramatically different directions.
Gary Sheffield, Carlos Guillen and Marcus Thames all homered off Daisuke Matsuzaka, and the Tigers beat the Boston Red Sox 6-5 Sunday to complete a three-game sweep.
