MLB FREE PICK: Take New York. According to latest MLB trends, NY Mets are 5-1 last 6 overall and 11-6 last 17 in series. Marlins are 8-19 last 26 home games vs. a right-handed starter, 15-38 last 52 vs. a right-handed starter and 8-21 last 29 during game 2 of a series.
The Mets (22-30, 10-13 road, 28-23 O/U) had won five straight games before Friday's loss at Miami. The Marlins (14-41, 8-20 home, 26-29 O/U) have been in a funk all year, losing nine of the last 10. The Mets look to bounce back from a loss to the Marlins as prospect Josh Turner came up and allowed five hits and no runs in seven innings. The Mets send another prospect out in Collin McHugh, who is making his first start. McHugh, who has replaced starter Scott Atchinson on the roster and now is replacing Jon Niese in the rotation. He's pitched just twice in relief, allowing four runs in three innings. But the talented 25-year old pitched well as a starter in AAA Las Vegas, going 3-2 with a 2.74 ERA in eight starts in the tough-hitting Pacific Coast League. He'll take on Jose Fernandez (2-3, 3.78 ERA), who pitched well against the Mets in April, allowing three runs in nine overall innings with six hits. However, Fernandez couldn't even reach four innings (3 1/3) in his last start as he was shelled by Tampa Bay, 10-6 on May 27. The bottom line is that the Mets are a very small favorite against the Marlins, coming off a loss. This is good value for a team playing much better against the worst team in the league. The Mets take on Miami from Marlins Ballpark at 4:10pmET on Saturday.
