A’s edged by Angels
Oakland fell by a count of 3-2 Tuesday night at Los Angeles to drop to 94-63 overall and 42-34 on the road. Khris Davis helped lead the A’s offensively as he finished 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Ramon Laureano went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Marcus Semien was 1-for-3 plus a walk. Homer Bailey suffered the loss as he allowed three earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and no walks over five innings. Frankie Montas returns from suspension to start tonight’s game as he enters with a 9-2 record, 2.70 ERA and 1.12 WHIP plus 97 strikeouts across 90 innings pitched.
Fletcher helps lead LA to win
Los Angeles used a three-run fifth inning Tuesday night at home to post a 3-2 victory over Oakland. David Fletcher helped pace the Angels offense as he finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Brian Goodwin was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Albert Pujols ended the game 1-for-3 with an RBI. Dillon Peters picked up the win as he gave up two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk over five innings. Hansel Robles notched the save as he allowed one hit with one strikeout and no walks over one inning. Andrew Heaney gets the start tonight as he comes in with a 4-6 record, 5.10 ERA and 1.28 WHIP plus 111 strikeouts over 90 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
The Athletics are 6-1 in their last seven road games. Oakland is 4-0 in the last four Montas starts.
Los Angeles
The Angels are 2-6 in their last eight home games. Los Angeles is 17-37 in its last 54 games overall.
Prediction:
Frankie Montas hasn’t started a game since June 20, but the A’s made sure he kept with a routine and remained stretched out during his inaction. While Montas might not throw 100 pitches tonight, I feel like 80-90 is a reasonable expectation. The bullpen should be able to get the rest of the job done. After a couple rough nights offensively, look for Oakland to get back on track here against the inconsistent Heaney. I’m taking the visitors in this spot.
