Philadelphia lost by a score of 5-4 Wednesday afternoon at Atlanta to drop to 78-73 overall and 35-38 on the road. Cesar Hernandez helped lead the Phillies offense as he finished 3-for-5 with an RBI. Scott Kingery was 1-for-3 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI. Adam Haseley ended the contest 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Aaron Nola took the loss for Philadelphia as he gave up five earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and two walks over five innings. Drew Smyly will start tonight for Philadelphia as he enters with a 4-6 record, 6.22 ERA and 1.60 WHIP plus 110 strikeouts over 105 2/3 innings.
Indians shut down Tigers
Cleveland rolled to a 7-0 home win Thursday night over Detroit to improve to 90-63 overall and 47-31 at home. Franmil Reyes helped pace the Indians offense as he was 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Francisco Lindor ended the contest 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored. Yasiel Puig was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Mike Clevinger picked up the win as he threw six shutout innings with seven hits allowed six strikeouts and one walk. MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 4-0 in their last four road games. Philadelphia is 5-0 in the last five Smyly road starts.
Cleveland
The Indians are 7-2 in their last nine games overall. Cleveland is 5-1 in the last six Bieber starts.
Prediction:
While Smyly has been undeniably better with the Phillies, he’s still prone to the long ball and has still been fairly run of the mill despite a high strikeout rate. With Cleveland fighting for a playoff spot and putting Bieber on the mound here, I think the hosts are in a great spot. Philadelphia has been a big disappointment this season and I don’t see an underdog win in the cards here.
