Reds topple D-backs
Cincinnati secured a 3-1 win Sunday afternoon at Arizona to improve to 70-80 overall and 30-45 on the road. Eugenio Suarez led the Reds offense as he finished 2-for-3 with two solo home runs plus a walk. Josh VanMeter went 1-for-4 with a solo home run. Phillip Ervin and Aristides Aquino each went 1-for-4. Trevor Bauer picked up the win as he allowed one earned run on four hits with nine strikeouts and one walk over eight innings. Raisel Iglesias notched the save as he struck out two in a perfect inning of work. Kevin Gausman will start tonight for the Reds as he enters with a 3-8 record, 5.83 ERA and 1.43 WHIP plus 107 strikeouts over 95 2/3 innings pitched.
Cubs offense continues torrid stretch
Chicago rolled to a 16-6 home victory Sunday afternoon over Pittsburgh to improve to 81-68 overall and 50-24 at home. Kris Bryant helped lead the Cubs offensively as he finished 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs. Kyle Schwarber ended the game 3-for-5 with a homer, three runs scored and three RBIs. Ian Happ was 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs after replacing Anthony Rizzo, who left with a sprained ankle. Jonathan Lucroy went 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit solo homer. Brad Wieck earned the win in relief as he struck out both batters he faced. Cole Hamels gets the start tonight as he comes in with a 7-7 record, 3.89 ERA and 1.39 WHIP plus 131 strikeouts over 134 1/3 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Cincinnati
The Reds are 1-4 in their last five series openers. Cincinnati is 1-7 in its last eight games versus the NL Central.
Chicago
The Cubs are 0-4 in the last four Hamels starts. Chicago is 6-0 in its last six series openers.
Prediction:
Chicago brought out the big bats for three straight games against the Pirates and now get a Reds team serving up Gausman today instead of previously slated starter Sonny Gray. Sign me up for more even with Rizzo out of the lineup. Hamels might give up a few, but his offense should more than make up for it.
