Nats fall in series opener
Washington lost by a score of 4-2 Thursday night at Atlanta in the opener of an important four-game series. Victor Robles led the Nationals offensively as he finished 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto each went 1-for-4. Stephen Strasburg took the loss as he gave up three earned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and four walks over six innings. Patrick Corbin gets the start tonight as he enters with an 11-6 record, 3.19 ERA and 1.12 WHIP with 201 strikeouts over 174 2/3 innings pitched.
Fried tosses gem
Max Fried only allowed one hit over seven shutout innings Thursday night to guide host Atlanta to a 4-2 victory over Washington. Fried struck out nine and did not walk a batter over the seven dominant frames. Ronald Acuna Jr. ended the night 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored to help lead the Braves offense. Ozzie Albies went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Brian McCann was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Dallas Keuchel draws the start tonight for Atlanta as he comes in with a 6-5 record, 3.72 ERA and 1.32 WHIP plus 70 strikeouts over 84 2/3 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Washington
The Nationals are 5-1 in their last six road games. Washington is 10-4 in the last 14 Corbin starts.
Atlanta
The Braves are 8-2 in their last 10 Friday games. Atlanta is 4-0 in the last four Keuchel starts.
Prediction:
Atlanta kept on rolling with another win last night, but I think it ends here as the Nats have been a very good baseball team as well over the last few months and are likely to have some success in this series. Corbin is having a fine season as the numbers show, while Keuchel is pitching more like a mid-rotation arm rather than a lockdown ace. Keuchel typically gets strong run support, but I think that will be limited tonight.
