Bichette has multi-HR game
Toronto fell by a score of 6-4 Thursday night in a series opener at Tampa Bay to drop to 55-86 overall and 28-44 on the road. Bo Bichette paced the Blue Jays offensively as he ended the night 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk and an RBI. Reese McGuire finished 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Buddy Boshers took the loss in relief as he gave up one earned run on one hit without recording an out. Clay Buchholz will start tonight for Toronto as he comes in with a 1-3 record, 5.45 ERA and 1.35 WHIP plus 18 strikeouts over 36 1/3 innings.
Meadows leads way to win
Tampa Bay secured a 6-4 home victory Thursday night over Toronto to improve to 83-59 overall and 40-32 at home. Austin Meadows paced the Rays offense as he finished 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, two runs scored and RBIs. Joey Wendle went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs. Avisail Garcia was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Oliver Drake notched the win in relief despite giving up two earned runs on two hits with three strikeouts and no walks over one inning. MLB Betting Trends
Toronto
The Blue Jays are 3-13 in their last 16 games overall. Toronto is 1-4 in the last five Buchholz starts.
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 4-1 in their last five Friday games. Tampa Bay is 19-7 in its last 26 games versus a right-handed starter.
Prediction:
McKay has struggled as a rookie on the mound, although his strikeout rate is solid. I’m not going to bank on McKay figuring it all out here and I certainly don’t trust Buchholz to slow down Tampa Bay. I think the best play on the board is the over with two struggling pitchers and a total that is very reachable.
