White Sox doubled up by Twins
Chicago dropped its series finale at home Thursday afternoon against Minnesota by a score of 10-5 to drop to 60-73 overall and 33-35 at home. Jose Abreu helped pace the White Sox as he finished 4-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI. Eloy Jimenez and Yolmer Sanchez both ended the game 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Dylan Cease took the loss as he surrendered eight earned runs on 10 hits over two innings, striking out three and walking one. Ivan Nova starts tonight for Chicago as he enters with a 9-10 record, 4.37 ERA and 1.37 WHIP plus 97 strikeouts over 158 2/3 innings of work.
Five-run frame propels Braves
Atlanta scored five runs in the second inning Wednesday night at Toronto en route to a 9-4 victory in interleague play. Matt Joyce helped lead the Braves offensively as he finished 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Freddie Freeman was 2-for-4 with a homer, a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Rafael Ortega went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Luke Jackson picked up the win in relief as he gave up one earned run on one hit with two strikeouts and one walk over 1 1/3 innings. Max Fried gets the start tonight as he comes in with a 14-4 record, 4.03 ERA and 1.40 WHIP plus 139 strikeouts across 136 1/3 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The White Sox are 1-4 in their last five games overall. Chicago is 6-1 in the last seven Nova starts.
Atlanta
The Braves are 9-2 in their last 11 games overall. Atlanta is 5-1 in the last six Fried home starts.
Prediction:
Nova’s season numbers might be nothing to take a second glance at, but he’s been in very good form over the last couple of months. If he can keep the ball in the yard and he often does just that, he’ll keep Chicago in this game. The White Sox’s offense is tailored to hit left-handed pitching and I’ve primarily bet on them this year when facing lefty starters. I’m going to take a shot on the road dogs in this spot.
