San Diego Padres Fantasy Spin
Eric Hosmer went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and a pair of RBI in the Padres’ loss to the Dodgers in extra-innings on Wednesday. Hosmer kicked off the scoring with an RBI single off Dodgers’ starter Kenta Maeda in the opening frame. He also tattooed a solo homer — his 20th round-tripper of the season — off reliever Pedro Baez in the eighth inning. The 29-year-old first baseman is hitting .285/.330/.452 with 65 runs scored, 20 homers and 87 RBI in 554 plate appearances.
San Francisco Giants Fantasy Spin
Brandon Belt went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a stolen base in the Giants’ loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Belt singled, stole second base — his fourth theft of the season — and came around to score on an RBI single by Stephen Vogt in the opening frame. He also scorched an RBI double to center field to trim the Giants’ deficit to a single run in the bottom of the eighth inning, but was left stranded in scoring position when teammate Alex Dickerson lined into an inning-ending double play later in the frame. The 31-year-old first baseman owns a pedestrian .229/.340/.386 triple-slash line with 65 runs scored, 14 home runs, 50 RBI and four steals in 512 plate appearances. He’s been a much better hitter on the road than at home this season and it certainly would be fascinating to see what he could do purely from a power perspective outside of San Francisco in the future. Until that happens, his fantasy value is limited to deeper mixed leagues and NL-Only formats.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres are 2-6 in their last eight games overall and are just 2-7 in Paddack’s last nine starts on the road.
San Francisco
The Giants are 1-4 in their last five games following a loss.
Prediction:
The Giants have been a horrible play when Rodriguez takes the mound. They’re 5-14 in his last 19 starts overall and are 1-11 in his last 12 outings at Oracle Park. They’re also 2-6 in Rodriguez’s last eight starts when he pitches the opener of a series and have dropped five of his last seven outings when their opponent allowed five runs or more in its previous game. Finally, the Giants are just 1-4 in their last five games versus a right-handed starter and have dropped six of their last eight games overall.
The Pick: San Diego Padres -126
