Reds edged at home
Cincinnati lost by a score of 9-8 Sunday afternoon at Pittsburgh to drop all three games in the series. Trevor Bauer took the loss as he was shelled for eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits over three innings, striking out two and walking two. Eugenio Suarez helped lead the Reds offense as he went 1-for-5 with a solo home run. Kyle Farmer was 2-for-3 off the bench with a solo homer. Josh VanMeter finished 1-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs. Sonny Gray draws the start tonight for Cincinnati as he enters with a 9-6 record, 2.92 ERA and 1.12 WHIP with 164 strikeouts over 138 2/3 innings.
Three-run sixth propels Marlins
Directly after giving up two runs in the top of the sixth inning Sunday afternoon, Miami scored three in the bottom half to guide it to a 3-2 home victory over Philadelphia. Elieser Hernandez picked up the win on the mound as he gave up two earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts and no walks over six innings. Ryne Stanek struck out one and walked one in a scoreless ninth inning to get the save. Starlin Castro paced the Marlins offense as he went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Jon Berti was 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Bryan Holaday finished 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Pablo Lopez gets the start tonight as he comes in with a 5-5 record, 4.23 ERA and 1.12 WHIP with 73 strikeouts over 76 2/3 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
Cincinnati
The Reds are 31-63 in their last 94 road games. Cincinnati is 14-3 in the last 17 Gray starts.
Miami
The Marlins are 6-14 in the last 20 Lopez starts. Miami is 1-5 in its last six Monday games.
Prediction:
Gray has been red-hot lately and has only given up one run over his last 24 innings, including back-to-back 10-strikeout games. While Miami is coming off a win over Aaron Nola and Philadelphia, I’m not going to take my chances on the hosts here. Cincinnati wants to get the bad taste out of its mouth from the Pittsburgh series and this is the perfect opportunity.
