Pirates vs. Giants Free Pick
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (ATS Consultants) – The Pirates will look to continue their onslaught of the Giants, one of the worst teams in baseball this season, when the two teams meet in San Francisco tonight at 9:05PM ET.
ODDS: According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Pirates are -128 money line favorites versus the Giants, who are +118 home underdogs. With Francisco Liriano set to face Tim Lincecum in the pitching matchup, the over/under is currently sitting at 6.5 runs.
LINE MOVEMENT: The Pirates opened as -125 money line favorites but their odds have been bet up to -128, while the Giants’ odds have gone from +115 up to +118. Pittsburgh enters play with a 76-52 overall record and is 34-30 on the road this season, while San Francisco is 56-72 overall and 31-35 at home.
PUBLIC BETTING: Of the current wagers placed on tonight’s game, 78% of the betting public currently favors Pittsburgh. This information is subject to change, however, so make sure you click on the link provided for the most updated numbers.
MLB FREE PICK: Take Pittsburgh. According to latest MLB trends, Pittsburgh is 5-1 in Liriano’s last six starts and 7-0 in Liriano’s last 7 starts with four days rest. San Francisco is 1-6 last 7 in series, 0-5 last 5 home games with the total set at 6.5 or lower, 5-16 in Lincecum’s last 21 starts and 1-5 in Lincecum’s last 6 home starts.
What a year for the Pirates. Now only are they going to break a 20-year losing streak but they have a chance to make the playoffs. The problem is that the St. Louis Cardinals are nipping at their heels and they are just one game ahead of them in the NL Central and 3.5 ahead of Cincinnati. San Francisco has lost three straight and five of their last six. They just lost starting pitcher Matt Cain to a contusion on his right arm, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list. The Pirates send lefty Francisco Liriano (14-5, 2.53 ERA) to the mound against right-hander Tim Lincecum (6-13, 4.53). Lincecum is a two-time Cy Young award-winner against one who’s pitching like one in Liriano. The ace for the Pirates has been dominant in five of his last six starts. Take away his horrible start against Colorado on August 9 (10 runs in 2 1/3 innings), Liriano has given up two runs in five starts. In his last start against San Diego, he gave up no runs and struck out 13. Lincecum has given up 11 runs in his last two starts. This a tough matchup for the Giants, who are hitting just .248 against left-handers.
