New York Yankees Fantasy Spin
Gleyber Torres went 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three runs scored in Thursday’s loss to the Athletics. The Yanks weren’t able to get the win Thursday but not by any fault of Torres. The 22-year-old continued his monster season with a single and a double before hitting a towering solo homer off A’s starter Tanner Roark in the seventh inning. The homer was his 30th of the year, the first time in his career he’s reached the 30-homer plateau. Not done, Torres then hit one to the opposite field off reliever Joakim Soria in the ninth. If his breakout 2018 campaign was a baseline few would have been disappointed with that production on a yearly basis, but it appears he was just getting started. Through Thursday, Torres is now hitting .288/.351/.548 with 31 homers, 75 RBI and 83 runs scored in 118 games.
Los Angeles Dodgers Fantasy Spin
Corey Seager had a game-tying two-run double and scored the walk-off run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Dodgers came back to beat the Blue Jays 3-2 on Thursday. Jays starter Jacob Waguespack kept the Dodgers’ bats silent all night but he wasn’t around in the ninth as they went to work against reliever Derek Law. Max Muncy led off the inning with a walk and a one-out Cody Bellinger double brought Seager to the plate with a chance to tie the game. He did just that, pulling a Law delivery into right field to score the pair. Then it was Enrique Hernandez’ turn, with his soft liner to center field only barely missing the outstretched glove of second baseman Cavan Biggio, allowing Seager to race around to score the winning run. In his first year back from Tommy John surgery, Seager has gradually improved at the plate and is in the midst of his best month yet. Through Thursday, he’s hitting .267 but with 12 doubles, three homers, 11 RBI and 14 runs scored. On the whole, the 25-year-old is hitting .272/.344/.465 with 12 homers in 104 games.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees have won 42 of their last 61 games overall despite being swept over a three-game series in Oakland.
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are now 77-36 in their last 113 games overall and have won five of their last seven interleague games, too.
Prediction:
The Dodgers have been nearly unbeatable at home this season, especially when Ryu starts. They’re 44-16 in his last 60 home starts and are 22-8 in his last 30 outings overall. The Dodgers are also a perfect 8-0 in Ryu’s last eight home starts when he faces a team with a winning record and are a remarkable 24-5 in their last 29 games at Dodger Stadium when facing an opponent with a winning record on the road. Meanwhile, the Yankees are just 1-5 in Paxton’s last six starts coming off five days of rest and have dropped five of their last six games on the road.
The Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -143
