Boston Red Sox Fantasy Spin
Brock Holt singled in pinch-runner Chris Owings in the bottom of the 10th Thursday to give the Red Sox a 5-4 win over the Royals in the completion of the suspended game from Aug. 7. The game was tied 4-4 in the top of the 10th when play resumed today. Billy Hamilton was supposed to be up for the Royals, but since he’s now with the Braves, Bubba Starling stepped in and grounded out to end the top of the inning. The Red Sox went on to score on a double from Christian Vazquez and a single from Holt, so play lasted less than 15 minutes today.
San Diego Padres Fantasy Spin
Francisco Mejia belted his eighth homer Wednesday in a loss to the Reds. Mejia’s seventh-inning solo shot off right-hander Lucas Sims cut the Reds’ lead to 4-2, the margin they would eventually win by. Aside from that, it was a quiet day for the 23-year-old, who went hitless with a strikeout in his other three plate appearances. Mejia has been hot since the All-Star break, batting an impressive .333 with six homers over 96 second-half at-bats.
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox are 5-2 in their last seven games overall and 44-17 in their last 61 interleague games.
San Diego
The Padres have dropped 13 of their last 19 home games and are 4-10 in their last 14 contests when playing the opener of a series.
Prediction:
The Red Sox are 5-1 in their last six games against the Padres and have won five of their last seven meetings with San Diego at Petco Park. The Red Sox have won 40 of Rodriguez’s last 52 starts overall and are 19-7 in his last 26 starts on the road, too. Boston is also a perfect 11-0 in Rodriguez’s last 11 interleague starts and is 21-5 in his last 26 starts following a Quality Start in his last appearance. On the other side, the Padres have dropped four of Paddack’s last five starts versus a team with a winning record and are just 1-5 in their last six games following an off day.
The Pick: Boston Red Sox -125
