New York Yankees Fantasy Spin
Masahiro Tanaka yielded two runs over 6 1/3 innings in a 3-2 victory over the Indians on Friday. Tanaka gave up solo homers to Jose Ramirez and Yasiel Puig, but otherwise kept the Indians off the board. He only struck out two batters on the night — his lowest since June 22 — but he limited the Indians to just four hits and didn’t walk a batter. Tanaka has now delivered back-to-back solid starts, so the Yankees and fantasy owners have to hope that he’s righted the ship. He’ll bring a 4.56 ERA into a start against the Athletics next week.
Oakland A’s Fantasy Spin
Tanner Roark allowed two runs over six innings in a no-decision against the Astros on Friday. Roark gave up only six hits and breezed through five frames before running into trouble in his final inning of work. The Astros did all of the damage against him in the sixth inning, loading the bases with only one out before Carlos Correa delivered a sacrifice fly and ensuing batter Yuli Gurriel smacked an RBI single to center field. The 32-year-old righty finished with three strikeouts and also walked three batters. He’ll carry a pedestrian 4.01 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 124/43 K/BB ratio into his next start against the Yankees on Thursday. He’s an extremely risky fantasy proposition outside of deeper mixed leagues in that extremely tough matchup.
