Ervin hits game-winning home run
Reds outfielder Patrick Ervin hit a walk-off home run last night to break a tie and send Cincinnati to a 2-1 home win over the Giants Friday night. Ervin entered the game as a reserve and it was his only hit in two at-bats. Jose Peraza ended the contest 2-for-5, while Scooter Gennett went 3-for-5 with a double. Curt Casali finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. David Hernandez earned the win in relief as he struck out two in a perfect inning of work.
McCutchen drives in lone run
Giants right fielder Andrew McCutchen led the way for his squad in yesterday’s loss as he was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Joe Panik went 2-for-4, while Steven Duggar was 1-for-4 with a double and a run. Ray Black suffered the loss in relief as he gave up one earned run on one hit with three strikeouts in one inning.
Madison Bumgarner (4-4, 2.71 ERA) will start today for San Francisco, while Cincinnati will go with Matt Harvey (5-7, 5.19).
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The under is 7-2 in the last nine Giants games on Saturdays. San Francisco is 1-4 in its last five games versus a right-handed starting pitcher.
Cincinnati
The Reds are 4-1 in their last five games versus the NL West. Cincinnati is 4-1 in Harvey’s last five starts.
Prediction:
Harvey has pitched better since being traded to the Reds, save for a few clunkers. Bumgarner has been really good since coming off the DL, but chances are he won’t have a lot of run support today. The Giants are a fourth-place team and probably won’t finish any higher in the standings. After last night’s demoralizing loss, bet on San Francisco to fall again today.
