Mets’ Niese tries to nab W vs. D-backs
Thor’s hammer lacked some of its usual heft last night, but it was still mighty enough to wallop the hapless Diamondbacks.
One night after Noah Syndergaard overcame erratic command to lead the Mets to victory in the desert, Jonathon Niese will try to give them a series triumph. Chase Field provide the setting for the 9:40 p.m. ET clash between the two squads. According to online sports book Bovada.lv, Chip Hale’s bunch is a 1.5-run favorite. Conversely, New York represents a +107 underdog.
Arizona has been miserable over the past week, dropping four or five contests. Nonetheless, they managed to plate four runs off All-Star Syndergaard on Tuesday. The D-backs also swiped four bases, giving them 93 this season.
The left-handed Niese hopes to neutralize the hosts’ speed and re-establish himself in an MLB rotation. Terry Collins is offering the Ohio native a starting assignment for the first time since July 10. Niese holds a 4-3 record with a 6.94 ERA in 10 career clashes vs. Diamondbacks.

For the hosts, Zach Godley strides to the hill. He takes the spot in the starting five vacated by the ineffective Patrick Corbin. Godley made five starts in July and August before moving to the bullpen.
New York understands the significance of handling its business in advance of a road trip to San Francisco. Niese could well get blasted right of the bat, but trust in the Mets’ reinvigorated offense to pull through again.
