The pitching matchup tonight has Anibal Sanchez (3-3, 6.69 ERA) on the mound for the Tigers to face Cole Hamels (7-1, 3.31) of the Rangers. Sanchez has been struggling as of late, allowing 13 earned runs over his last 9 innings of work. Sanchez has 67 strikeouts with 20 walks this season and a 1.57 WHIP. Hamels has been dialed in lately, not allowing an earned run in his last two starts, a total of 16 innings. Hamels has 58 strikeouts with 26 walks this season and a 1.04 WHIP.
The Rangers have won the first two games in this series with some relative ease. Texas picked up a 6-2 win on Monday and had a 10-4 victory last night. Detroit is 53-66 overall and 24-38 on the road. Texas is 58-60 overall and 32-27 at home.
Justin Verlander had his first poor outing in a few weeks, allowing five runs in six innings to fall to 8-8 on Tuesday. A.J. Griffin allowed just one run in five innings to improve to 6-3 on the season. Joey Gallo hit his 34th home run of the season in the win while Mike Napoli had a pair of hits and drove in three runs. Detroit was led by Jose Iglesias, who had two RBI. John Hicks added three hits and scored twice.
The only game the Tigers were likely to win in this series was last night and they managed to lose by six runs. Hamels is locked in and facing a poor lineup right now. Texas has plenty of pop on their bats and facing a pitcher that gives up plenty of baserunners in short stints. Texas should be able to run away with this one.
