Angels aim to avoid sweep against Indians
Trevor Bauer ran into a bit of a rough spot in mid-July. If his most recent start is any indication of what’s in store down the stretch, though, Cleveland and its fans should be thrilled.
The righty leads the team into battle with the Angels this afternoon, with a 1:10 p.m. ET first pitch at Progressive Field. Online sports book BetDSI gives Terry Francona’s troops odds of -205 to complete the four-game sweep, while Los Angeles represents a +180 underdog. The over/under run total comes in at 9.5.
Last week, Bauer held the NL East-leading Nationals to four hits in 6 1/3 scoreless innings. The 25-year-old thereby improved to 8-5 with a 3.88 ERA in his third full season. He’s 2-0 with a 2.38 ERA in three appearances vs. the Halos.
As for Mike Scioscia, he turns to Jered Weaver. The three-time All-Star’s in the midst of a wretched campaign, having surrendered 14 earned runs in his last 20 2/3 frames. Weaver tends to enjoy throwing in northern Ohio, however, as evidenced by his 7-2 record and solid peripherals there.

In order to give their hurler any sort of a chance shortly, the Angels must find a way to reinvigorate the sticks. Shortstop Andrelton Simmons’ infield single was the squad’s lone hit in the series’ third game. Unfortunately for the SoCal crowd, we can’t envision Bauer slipping now. Take the Indians to win comfortably.
