Rangers in a funk
Texas is struggling right now, having lost five of their last six games following a rough 19-4 loss to the Blue Jays last night. The Rangers are 59-59 overall, 24-37 on the road and 60-55 with the under. Texas has Lance Lynn getting the start tonight. He is 14-7 on the season with a 3.60 ERA.
The Rangers actually had a brief 1-0 lead on Monday but then got lit up after that. Ariel Jurado got the start on the mound and allowed eight runs over 3.2 innings to fall to 6-8 on the year. Five of the six Texas pitchers gave up multiple runs. At the plate, the Rangers had three home runs for their four runs. Rougned Odor hit his 21st of the season while Nomar Mazara and Willie Calhoun also went yard.
Toronto grabs another
Despite a poor overall record, the Blue Jays have been playing well as of late. The Jays have won four of their last six thanks to Monday’s victory. Toronto is now 50-72 on the season, 23-36 at home and 60-58 with the under. Toronto has Thomas Pannone getting the start today. He is 2-5 on the year with a 6.83 ERA.
The Blue Jays put up 21 hits in Monday’s win, including four home runs. Brandon Drury had a grand slam to lead the way and drove in five for the game. Justin Smoak and Randal Grichuk also homered and each drove in four in the victory. Brock Stewart threw 5.1 innings and gave up three runs, but still got the win. He improved to 2-0 on the season.
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The Rangers are just 9-21 in their last 30 Tuesday games, but 5-1 in their last six games against a left-handed starter.
Toronto
The Blue Jays are 8-1 in their last nine Game 2’s of a series and 9-2 in their last 10 after scoring five runs or more in their previous game.
Prediction:
The Rangers have not been playing very well, but Lynn has been pitching well. He has given up just three earned runs over his last 20 innings. However, he did give up five runs in six innings to the Jays earlier this year. Pannone has been struggling, allowing 11 runs over his last 8.1 innings. He was blown up by the Rangers earlier this year, giving up seven runs over 2.1 innings. Despite the pitching matchup, I still like the Jays today. Their hitting has been improved and they have a rejuvenated energy thanks to their young roster. I think they can get to Lynn, or get to the Rangers bullpen late. I will take them as a home underdog.
MLB Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays +125
