St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin
Paul Goldschmidt went 4-for-5 with a two-run homer, three RBI and a stolen base to help the Cardinals complete a three-game series sweep against the Pirates with an 11-9 victory on Sunday. Goldschmidt clobbered a 441-foot two-run tater to right-center field off Pirates left-hander Steven Brault in the opening frame. It was the first time he’s left the yard since July 30. He also plated an additional run with an RBI single to right field in the third inning before recording a single and his first stolen base of the year in the seventh inning. The 31-year-old slugger has put together an impressive hot streak since the start of July, hitting .302 (38-for-126) with 12 home runs and 31 RBI in 34 games during that span. The halcyon five-category fantasy superstar days of prime Goldschmidt may be gone, but he’s still an upper-echelon four-category impact masher.
Kansas City Royals Fantasy Spin
Jorge Soler went 3-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI as the Royals trounced the Tigers 10-2 on Sunday. Soler crushed a Derek Norris delivery to left-center field in the third inning for a two-run blast, and he showed off his impressive strength in the eighth when he reached out and lifted a Drew VerHagen breaking ball over the wall in left. He then capped his big day with a two-run double in the ninth, just for good measure. The 27-year-old is somewhat quietly having a terrific year in Kansas City, hitting .259/.343/.558 with 35 homers, 87 RBI and 68 runs scored on the year. He trails only Mike Trout in home runs among American League hitters.
MLB Betting Trends
St. Louis
The Cardinals are 4-11 in Flaherty’s last 15 road starts and are 3-9 in his last 12 outings after he posts a quality start in his last appearance.
Kansas City
The Royals have dropped six of their last seven at home and are just 1-5 in Sparkman’s last six starts.
Prediction:
The under is a perfect 4-0 in the Cardinals’ last four road games and is 20-4-2 in their last 26 games when their opponent scores five runs or more in their previous game. The under is also 8-2-1 in the Cardinals’ last 11 games following an off day, is 3-0-1 in Flaherty’s last four road starts and 6-0-1 in his last seven outings overall. On the other side, the under is 41-20-4 in the Royals’ last 65 interleague games when facing an opponent with a winning record.
The Pick: Cardinals/Royals UNDER 9.5
