Diamondbacks’ Godley strikes out seven in no-decision vs. Phils
Zack Godley struck out seven batters over 7 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Phillies on Monday. Godley allowed two runs on five hits. He issued one walk and also hit two batters. He and opposing starter Jake Arrieta were masterful in the early frames, locking horns in a throwback pitcher’s duel in Chase Field. The duo allowed just four hits combined over six scoreless innings to begin the contest. The Phillies finally broke the stalemate against Godley in the seventh inning when Odubel Herrera lined an RBI triple to center field and Jorge Alfaro followed with an RBI sacrifice fly. The 28-year-old righty has struck out at least seven batters in six of his last seven starts dating back to July 6. He’s 12-6 with a 4.35 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 137/60 K/BB ratio in 23 starts.
Reds’ Castillo allows two runs in loss to Nationals
Luis Castillo yielded two runs in 5 1/3 innings Sunday in a loss to the Nationals. This still isn’t the Castillo of 2017, but the sophomore has allowed three runs or fewer in six straight starts. He has a 3.996 ERA (no, we’re not rounding) and 89 strikeouts in 92 1/3 innings since the beginning of May. He’ll get the Diamondbacks next time out.
