Braves edged in opener
The Braves couldn’t come through in Monday’s series opener, suffering a 5-3 loss to the Twins. Atlanta is 66-48 on the season, 34-23 on the road and 56-53 with the over. The Braves have Mike Foltynewicz on the mound today. He is 2-5 on the season with a 6.37 ERA.
Atlanta was tied with Minnesota, 3-3, entering the ninth, but gave up a walk-off home run in the bottom of the inning. Chris Martin took the loss by allowing the shot in the ninth. Mike Soroka threw seven innings in his start, giving up three runs on six hits. At the plate, Freddie Freeman hit his 27th home run of the year, a solo shot. He, Josh Donaldson and Ronald Acuna Jr. each had two hits in the loss.
Twins extend win streak
Minnesota improved its win streak to four games on Monday night with the win over the Braves. The Twins have also won seven of their last eight. Minnesota is 70-42 on the season, 35-21 at home and 57-49 with the over. The Twins have Jose Berrios getting the start this evening. He is 10-5 on the season with a 2.80 ERA.
Miguel Sano’s 19th home run of the season was the game-winner on Monday night, as he hit a two-run, walk-off shot in the ninth. Luis Arraez also drove in two runs in the win while Max Kepler had a solo home run, his 31st of the year. Jake Odorizzi had a solid start, allowing just one run over six innings. He struck out seven. Trevor May got the win with a scoreless ninth to move to 5-3 on the season.
MLB Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Braves are just 4-9 in Foltynewicz last 13 starts and 4-9 in their last 13 interleague games.
Minnesota
The Twins have won five of their last six following a win and Berrios’ last six Tuesday starts.
Prediction:
Berrios has been pitching well again this year and has given up just two earned runs over his last 19.2 innings of work. He is particularly strong at home, posting a 5-2 record with a 2.10 ERA this year at Target Field. Foltynewicz is coming off one of his worst starts of the year, giving up eight runs over four innings to the Nationals. His walk numbers have been up as of late as well, as he has 11 over his last three starts. That will be a problem against this Minnesota lineup. Berrios won’t need much run support to win today, but I think he gets it anyway.
MLB Prediction: Minnesota Twins -160
