According to oddsmakers, the Rangers are favored at home, as they are getting odds of -115 to win. The Tigers are listed with a money line of -105 to win, while the over/under total for the contest is set at 9.5 runs. The public betting for the contest currently has 68 percent going on Texas at home. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our MLB Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Tigers edged in opener
Detroit dropped the series opener on Friday, 5-4, after having won a series in Los Angeles coming in. Detroit is 32-73 on the season, 19-37 on the road and 52-46 with the under. The Tigers have Matthew Boyd on the mound tonight. He is 6-8 on the season with a 3.94 ERA.
The Tigers trailed most of the night and tried a late rally, scoring three runs over the final two innings. However, it wasn’t enough. Niko Goodrum had three hits and a RBI to lead the team while JaCoby Jones and Harold Castro each had a pair of hits. Jones also scored twice. Tyler Alexander got the start and he allowed four runs on 10 hits over 5.2 innings. He took the loss to drop to 0-2 on the season.
Rangers put together back-to-back wins
The Rangers have finally established a win streak again thanks to the narrow wins over the Mariners and Tigers. Texas is now 55-54 on the season, 33-22 at home and 55-52 with the under. The Rangers have Adrian Sampson getting the start tonight. He is 6-8 on the season with a 5.32 ERA.
Lance Lynn was locked in on Friday, striking out 10 over seven innings while giving up just one run. He improved to 14-6 on the year with the win even though his bullpen nearly blew the lead. At the plate, the Rangers had 12 hits in the win. Hunter Pence and Rougned Odor each homered. Pence drove in two. Danny Santana added two hits and scored twice.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers are just 32-72 in their last 104 road games and 7-19 in their last 26 Saturday games
Texas
The Rangers have won seven of their last nine against AL Central opponents, but just two of their last seven at home.
Prediction:
Boyd was talked about heavily as a possible trading chip for the Tigers, but their demands were too high. Now he finds himself stuck in Detroit with an awful lineup and bullpen to work with. That could impact his psyche right now, fresh off the trade deadline. The Tigers have lost nine of his last 10 starts despite some decent results. Sampson is in a funk, giving up 16 runs over his last 12.2 innings. However, I still think he will be okay at home against this terrible Detroit team. He has a 3.36 ERA at home this year and there is a reason the Tigers have the record they do.
MLB Prediction: Texas Rangers -115
