Rays grab opener
Tampa opened this big series with Boston by picking up a 6-5 win on Tuesday night. The Rays have won four of their last five entering tonight. The Rays are 61-48 on the season, 33-22 on the road and 54-46 with the under. Tampa has Andrew Kittredge getting the start this evening. He is 1-0 on the season with a 3.05 ERA.
Tampa managed to win last night despite ace Charlie Morton not having his best. He gave up four runs over 4.2 innings to take a no-decision. The Tampa pen had six different arms take the mound, allowing just one run over 4.1 innings. Adam Kolarek got the win in relief while Emilio Pagan got his eighth save. At the plate, Avisail Garcia led the way with two hits and three RBI, including his 14th home run of the year. Travis d’Arnaud and Austin Meadows each had two hits and a RBI as well.
Red Sox drop second straight
Boston has lost its last two games at home to the Yankees and Rays after the Red Sox fell to Tampa last night. Boston is 59-49 on the season, 27-27 at home and 64-41 with the over. Rick Porcello is getting the start this evening. He is 9-7 on the season with a 5.55 ERA.
David Price lasted just 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits with nine strikeouts. Josh Taylor took the loss by giving up the winning run in relief. At the plate, Andrew Benintendi had three hits and three RBI to lead the way while Mitch Moreland also drove in a pair of runs.
MLB Betting Trends
Tampa
The Rays are 0-6 in their last six Game 2’s of a series, but 4-1 in their last five division games.
Boston
The Red Sox are 5-1 in their last six games following a loss and they have won Pocello’s last four starts.
Prediction:
Porcello has produced wins, but not in the ideal way. The Red Sox have given him incredible run support, scoring at least 10 runs in five straight starts. He has given up 30 runs over his last six starts. Kittredge is a relief starter for Tampa, so he won’t be on the mound much. He has thrown a scoreless inning against Boston this year, but I would be concerned about how many arms Tampa had to use yesterday. Still, Boston can’t put up 10 runs on this pitching staff and Porcello can’t afford to blow up again.
MLB Prediction: Tampa Bay Rays +130
