Buxton, Sano provide offense in win
Minnesota held on for a 2-1 victory Wednesday night at Miami to improve to 65-41 overall and 34-20 on the road. Byron Buxton went 1-for-3 with a solo home run to help pace the offense. Miguel Sano finished 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and an RBI. Eddie Rosario was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Jake Odorizzi picked up the win on the mound as he gave up one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts and one walk over 5 2/3 innings. Taylor Rogers earned his 16th save as he struck out one over a perfect inning of work. Jose Berrios gets the start today as he enters with a 9-5 record, 2.94 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 122 strikeouts over 134 2/3 innings.
Gallen sharp again
Miami fell by a 2-1 count at home Tuesday night to drop to 41-64 overall and 21-34 at home. Zac Gallen suffered the loss on the mound as he allowed two earned runs on four hits with eight strikeouts and three walks over seven innings. Curtis Granderson led the offense as he went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Starlin Castro finished 1-for-4 with a run scored. Miguel Rojas also ended the contest 1-for-4. Sandy Alcantara is on the mound tonight as he comes in with a 4-9 record, 4.18 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 84 strikeouts over 118 1/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Minnesota
The Twins are 4-1 in their last five games versus a right-handed starter. Minnesota is 7-3 in the last 10 Berrios road starts.
Miami
The Marlins are 1-4 in their last five Wednesday games. Miami is 1-5 in the last six Alcantara home starts.
Prediction:
Berrios and Alcantara were both All-Stars this month, but Berrios has had a much better campaign for the stronger ballclub. Alcantara made it just so the Marlins could have their representative. While Miami has been competitive at home lately, Berrios should be able to shut down a lineup that didn’t do much against Odorizzi and the bullpen yesterday. Minnesota is in a battle to stay atop the AL Central and wins like this are necessary as we enter the last two months of the regular season.
