Pittsburgh Pirates Fantasy Spin
Colin Moran hit his third career grand slam Monday against the Reds. More rare than Moran hitting a grand slam is him hitting a homer of any kind against a lefty; the homer tonight off Wandy Peralta was his second versus a southpaw as a major leaguer and first of this year. The Pirates might as well give him more time against lefties down the stretch. It’s not like Jung Ho Kang should be in their plans for 2020 anyway.
Cincinnati Reds Fantasy Spin
Joey Votto finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and a walk against the Pirates on Monday. The hope was that Votto would keep building on his strong June, but he’s really been pretty disappointing in July. The three-hit game tonight was his first in a month. He’s homered just once in his last 27 games.
MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are struggling but they have been somewhat profitable when Joe Musgrove starts, winning five of his last seven starts.
Cincinnati
The Reds are 1-5 in Tanner Roark’s last six home starts.
Prediction:
The Pirates have lost 19 of their last 26 games overall and 20 of their last 26 games on the road. They’re also 8-20 in their last 28 games coming off a loss and despite Musgrove’s success overall, the Pirates are still just 4-11 in his last 15 outings on the road. Meanwhile, the Reds have won five of their last seven games and are 4-1 in Roark’s last five outings against the rest of the National League Central.
MLB Prediction: Cincinnati Reds -142
