Mets hold off Pirates rally
New York allowed four runs in the top of the ninth inning at home Sunday afternoon versus Pittsburgh before ultimately holding on for an 8-7 win. Michael Conforto helped pace the offensive effort as he finished 1-for-4 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. J.D. Davis was 2-for-3 with a walk, a run and an RBI. Todd Frazier ended the game 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Jason Vargas picked up the win in his final Mets start as he gave up three earned runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out five and walking three. Syndergaard gets the start tonight as he enters with a 7-5 record, 4.33 ERA and 1.26 WHIP with 126 strikeouts over 126 2/3 innings.
White Sox crushed by Twins
Chicago lost its series finale Sunday afternoon at home against Minnesota by a score of 11-1. Dylan Covey took the loss on the mound as he gave up five earned runs on five hits without retiring a batter. Jon Jay finished 2-for-4 with an RBI to pace the offense. Leury Garcia went 2-for-4 and scored the lone run. Ryan Goins ended the game 1-for-3 plus a walk. Reynaldo Lopez gets the start tonight for the White Sox as he comes in with 5-9 record, 5.52 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 111 strikeouts over 119 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 4-1 in their last five interleague games. New York is 4-1 in the last five Syndergaard interleague starts.
Chicago
The White Sox are 2-8 in their last 10 games versus the NL East. Chicago is 0-4 in its last four games versus a right-handed starter.
Prediction:
The White Sox tend to struggle against good right-handed pitching and Syndergaard fits that category. While Lopez has been good lately, he is also wildly inconsistent and one of the least trustable pitchers in baseball. With New York playing well as of late, I like that to continue another day here.
