Rangers edged
The Rangers were building some momentum in recent days, but were edged by Oakland on Saturday night in a 5-4 loss. The Rangers are 53-52 on the season, 22-31 on the road and 54-49 with the under. Pedro Payano gets the start for the Rangers this afternoon. He is 1-0 on the season with a 1.50 ERA.
The Rangers trailed 5-0 before putting up a 4-run rally in the seventh. However, the rally came up short as they were unable to get the tying run. Danny Santana had two hits with a triple and two RBI to lead Texas at the plate while Nomar Mazara added three hits. Adrian Sampson took the loss on the mound. He fell to 6-8 by allowing five runs on six hits over six innings.
Athletics stop the bleeding
Oakland had lost five of its last six prior to picking up a needed 1-run win over the Rangers last night. Oakland is 59-47 on the season, 32-22 at home and 56-50 with the under. Mike Fiers is getting the start for the Athletics this evening. He is 9-3 on the season with a 3.57 ERA.
Oakland scored its five runs on six hits on Saturday. For of the six hits were home runs. Marcus Semien, Matt Chapman, Mark Canha and Ramon Laureano each went yard in the win. Chapman was the lone 2-run shot of the group. Laureano would take a little time to watch his shot, which led to him getting plunked later in the game. Homer Bailey got the win on the mound, as he threw 6.2 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts. He is 9-7 on the year. Liam Hendriks got his ninth save of the year.
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The Rangers are 4-10 in their last 14 road games and 3-8 in their last 11 division contests.
Oakland
The Athletics are 7-2 in their last nine home games and 8-2 in their last 10 Game 4’s of a series.
Prediction:
Fiers has been really solid over the last two months for Oakland. His worst outing was three runs over 6.1 innings against a powerful Minnesota lineup. He had just one start against Texas this year and struggled, giving up six runs over five innings. However, I think this will be a different outcome. Peyano has thrown just six innings this year, and while they have been good, it’s not enough of a sample size to believe he will lockdown this Oakland lineup today. He certainly isn’t expected to go deep in the game. I think Fiers will set the tone for the day and lead the Athletics to a needed win.
