Braves roll in opener
Atlanta snapped out of their brief 2-game losing streak on Friday by picking up a 9-2 win at Philly in the series opener. The Braves are 61-43 overall, 31-20 on the road and 51-48 with the over. Max Fried is getting the start for the Braves tonight. He is 10-4 on the season with a 4.08 ERA.
The Braves managed nine runs on just seven hits on Friday, thanks in part to two Philly errors and six walks. The Phillies scored four runs in each the fifth and sixth innings. Brian McCann had the lone home run for the Braves while Ronald Acuna Jr. drove in three runs and had two hits. Freddie Freeman had another two RBI as well to move to 81 on the year. Mike Soroka got the start and allowed just one run in 4.2 innings, but didn’t take a decision. Sean Newcomb got the win in relief and is 4-1 on the year.
Phillies beat up
Philadelphia had its 3-game win streak come to an end on Friday night in the bad loss at home to the Braves. Philly is 54-49 on the season, 30-22 at home and 53-47 with the under. Zach Eflin gets the start for Philly tonight. He is 7-10 on the year with a 4.25 ERA.
Jake Arrieta had a rough showing on the mound on Friday, lasting just five innings while giving up five runs with three walks. He is now 8-8 on the season after the loss. At the plate, Jean Segura had three hits, including his 11th home run of the year. Bryce Harper drove in the other run, his 71st RBI of the year.
MLB Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Braves are 6-1 in Fried’s last seven road starts and 5-2 in their last seven road games overall.
Philadelphia
The Phillies have lost five straight Saturday games, but they are 7-3 in Eflin’s last 10 home starts.
Prediction:
Fried has thrown pretty much six innings or less in his starts, often going on the less side. He gets a fair amount of strikeouts, but also walks a few. In three appearances against the Phillies, Fried has a 7.11 ERA. Eflin has struggled as of late, giving up 20 runs over his last 19 innings, including seven to the Braves in just three innings on the Fourth of July. The Phillies have lost eight of his last 10 starts and he just doesn’t seem to be getting on track. Fried isn’t great, but the Atlanta pen can handle things if he slips up.
MLB Prediction: Atlanta Braves -125
