Indians slip up
Cleveland had been one of the hotter teams in baseball as of late, but blew a lead on Tuesday to lose to the Blue Jays 2-1 in 10 innings. The Indians are 58-42 overall, 26-21 on the road and 54-43 with the under. Shane Bieber is taking the mound for Cleveland today. He is 9-3 on the season with a 3.69 ERA.
The Indians held a 1-0 lead for most of Tuesday’s game, but closer Brad Hand blew his second save of the year in the ninth and then Tyler Olson took the loss in the 10th. Trevor Bauer threw 7.2 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts in his start, but didn’t factor in the decision. Cleveland had just six hits in the loss. Francisco Lindor drove in the lone run for the Tribe and was the only player with multiple hits.
Jays searching for consistency
Toronto hasn’t been winning or losing too many consecutive games as of late. They Are 4-4 over their last eight and haven’t had a 3-game winning or losing streak in multiple weeks. The Blue Jays are now 39-64 on the season, 19-31 at home and 50-50 with the over/under total. Toronto has Marcus Stroman getting the start today. He is 6-10 on the season with a 3.06 ERA.
Aaron Sanchez got the start for Toronto on Tuesday and threw five innings while allowing just one run. The Jays bullpen really came up big, as it combined for five innings of 1-hit ball with six strikeouts. Ken Giles got the win by pitching the 10th. Justin Smoak was the clutch player at the plate. He homered in the ninth to tie the game and then had a game-winning infield single in the 10th. He now has 17 home runs on the year. Vlad Guerrero Jr. had his fourth multi-hit game over his last five, bumping his average up 18 points over the last week.
MLB Betting Trends
Cleveland
The Indians have won seven of their last eight road games and Bieber’s last five Wednesday starts.
Toronto
The Blue Jays have won seven of their last 10 against AL Central opponents, but they are just 16-37 in their last 53 after a win.
Prediction:
Stroman has been an interesting story this year. His ERA and major stats are all pretty strong, yet he is just 6-10 due to no support from his team and bullpen. He hasn’t had a really poor start in about six weeks. Bieber was an All-Star this year and the game’s MVP, but he has been a little rocky since. He has given up eight runs over his last two starts, a total of 12 innings. I think this will be another low-scoring game, as Stroman could be auditioning for other teams in a potential trade to a contender. He will be on his game today. Bieber should be strong as well, but the Jays seem to be slightly boosted at the plate with Vlad Jr. starting to find a groove. I am going to take my chances on the Jays for another upset today.
MLB Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays +125
