Marlins drop fourth straight
Miami suffered a fourth straight loss on Monday night, losing 9-1 to the White Sox in Chicago. They have been held to two total runs in three of the four losses. The Marlins are 36-62 on the season, 18-30 on the road and 49-44 with the under. Caleb Smith is getting the start tonight. He is 5-4 on the season with a 3.47 ERA.
Trevor Richards struggled in his start on Monday night, allowing seven runs over five innings on seven hits to fall to 3-12 on the year. Miami was held to just one run on four hits. The lone run of the game came on a solo home run from Jorge Alfaro, his 11th shot of the season.
White Sox trying to heat up
Chicago has won three of its last four games thanks to Monday’s lopsided win over the Marlins. The White Sox are 45-52 on the season, 26-20 at home 47-47 with the over/under total. Chicago has Dylan Covey getting the start tonight. He is 1-5 on the season with a 5.83 ERA.
In a surprising outing, Ivan Nova shook off his bad starts throughout 2019 by throwing a complete game to improve to 5-9 on the season. Nova gave up one run on four hits, walking none and striking out five. At the plate, Chicago blasted four home runs. Jose Abreu hit his 22nd of the season and drove in three in the win while Yoan Moncada hit his 18th home run and finished with four RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
Miami
Miami is just 1-9 in its last 10 games against a right-handed starter, but 8-1 in Smith’s last nine starts against a losing team.
Chicago
Chicago is 5-2 in its last seven home games and 7-3 in its last 10 home games against a left-handed starter.
Prediction:
I opted for Miami on Monday and Ivan Nova made me look the fool with a surprising outing on the mound. Covey hasn’t had much better success than Nova has had this season, so my instincts want to go with Miami again tonight. Smith has been pretty steady with his outings, not taking too much damage but not getting too deep into games either. Chicago showed what it can do at the plate on Monday and I think the Sox hitters will be game for more of the same at home tonight. While they may not get to Smith, I think they can get to the Miami pen. While I don’t love Covey on the mound, I do like the Chicago hitters continuing to connect at home.
MLB Prediction: Miami Marlins -110
