Four-run seventh propels Phillies
Philadelphia scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday in a 7-6 home victory over Los Angeles. Bryce Harper helped lead the way as he finished 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Adam Haseley went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored. Jean Segura ended the contest 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Ranger Suarez picked up the win in relief as he gave up one hit with one strikeout and no walks over 1 1/3 innings. Jake Arrieta draws the start tonight for the Phillies as he enters with an 8-7 record, 4.54 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 87 strikeouts over 113 innings.
Pirates fall short at Cards
Pittsburgh dropped a 6-5 decision in its series finale Wednesday at St. Louis to drop to 45-50 overall and 23=29 on the road. Bryan Reynolds helped pace the Pirates offense as he went 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Kevin Newman ended the contest 3-for-5. Starling Marte was 1-for-5 with a solo home run. Francisco Liriano suffered the loss in relief as he gave up two earned runs on one hit with no strikeouts and one walk over one-third of an inning. Jordan Lyles will start tonight for Pittsburgh as he comes in with a 5-6 record, 5.08 ERA and 1.40 WHIP with 80 strikeouts over 75 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 1-4 in their last five Friday games. Philadelphia is 5-2 in the last seven Arrieta starts.
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are 9-2 in their last 11 home games. Pittsburgh is 0-6 in the last six Lyles starts.
Prediction:
Lyles has been been brutal in his last two starts, both against the Cubs, including giving up seven earned runs in two-thirds of an inning his last time out. While I don’t see him being quite as bad here and Arrieta has certainly not been special this season, I trust the Phillies more as a whole to get the job done here in a pick’em game. Lyles can’t be pitching with much confidence right now and I think the Phillies take advantage.
