Dodgers dominate in series opener
Los Angeles hit four home runs Monday night as it rolled to a 16-2 victory at Philadelphia to improve to 63-33 overall and 26-21 on the road. Cody Bellinger helped lead the way as he finished 4-for-6 with two solo home run and four runs scored. Max Muncy went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Alex Verdugo was 3-for-6 with a homer, three runs scored and two RBIs. Clayton Kershaw picked up the win as he allowed one earned run on four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over six innings. Walker Buehler draws the start tonight as he enters with an 8-1 record, 3.46 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 113 strikeouts over 104 innings pitched.
Kingery homers in loss
Philadelphia led 1-0 through three innings Monday night at home versus Los Angeles, but allowed six runs in the fourth and eventually lost by a count of 16-2. Scott Kingery paced the Phillies offensively as he ended the game 2-for-5 with a solo home run. Rhys Hoskins was 2-for-2 with a triple, a walk and a run. Bryce Harper finished 2-for-4 with a double. Zach Eflin suffered the loss as he surrendered seven earned runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and one walk over six innings. Vince Velasquez starts tonight for Philadelphia as he comes in with a 2-5 record, 4.63 ERA and 1.40 WHIP with 63 strikeouts over 56 1/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 8-1 in the last nine Buehler starts. Los Angeles is 55-25 in its last 80 games overall.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 5-0 in their last five Tuesday games. Philadelphia is 6-2 in the last eight Velasquez home starts.
Prediction:
Velasquez is too erratic for my tastes to bet against the best team in the National League, even with the Phillies being at home. Buehler has had a fantastic season after a sluggish start and should slow down a Philadelphia offense that will see a much different look than last night with Kershaw. It’s a steep price, but I love LA in this spot.
