AL Central Updated Odds
LAS VEGAS, NV (TheSpread) – The Kansas City Royals are looking to run away with the AL Central title and end the run of the Detroit Tigers. Will they hold off the rest of the division?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Royals are currently a -350 favorite to win the AL Central title this year, while the Tigers join the Minnesota Twins with odds of +600 to win. The Cleveland Indians are listed at +1600 to win, while the Chicago White Sox have odds of +2500.
The Royals are currently 52-34 on the season, which is the best record in the American League. They have a 4.5-game lead in the Central on the Twins, who are having a surprising 49-40 season despite a lackluster roster on paper. The Tigers are currently just 44-44, putting them 9 games in back of the Royals. Cleveland is 42-46 on the year while the White Sox are 41-45. Both teams are currently 11 games out of first place.
The Tigers have won the last four AL Central titles, but poor pitching has kept them from doing much in the first half of the season. Despite being the defending AL Champion, the Royals haven’t won a division title until 1985 when they were part of the AL West. The Royals have had strong pitching again this year, with a team ERA of 3.50, but they have also been hitting well, as their team average of .274 ranks second in the majors. Kendrys Morales has been leading the effort with 11 HRs, 23 doubles, 61 RBI and a .281 batting average.
