LAS VEGAS, NV (TheSpread) – The closest race in the American League in the AL West. Which team will emerge from the pack and win the title?
According to oddsmakers at GTBets, the Los Angeles Angels are currently a -140 favorite to win the AL West this year while the Houston Astros have odds of +150 to win. The Texas Rangers have odds of +1200, while the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners each have +1400 odds.
The Angels currently have the AL West lead at 48-40. They are ½ a game ahead of the Astros, who are 49-42 this season. The Rangers are 6 games back at 42-46 while the Mariners are fourth in the division at 41-48, 7.5 games out of first. The Athletics are bringing up the rear at 41-50, 8.5 games out of first place.
The Astros are looking to win their first division title since 2001, when they were a member of the NL Central. Los Angeles currently stands in their way as they seek a second straight division crown. Despite a lot of powerful bats, the Angels are just 16th in the league in runs and 18th in batting average. Their pitching is a little above average as they are 11th in team ERA at 3.64 and ninth in WHIP at 1.22. The team is led by Mike Trout, who is hitting .312 with 26 home runs and 55 RBI.
