Astros roll past Rangers
After dropping the first two games of its series at Texas, Houston responded with a pair of victories including a 12-4 win Sunday afternoon in the finale. Jose Altuve helped pace the offensive effort for the Astros as he went 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and four RBIs. Yuli Gurriel ended the game 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Michael Brantley finished 2-for-5 with a double, a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Justin Verlander earned the win as he gave up two earned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over six innings. Josh James will get the start tonight for Houston as he enters with a 4-0 record, 4.91 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with 76 strikeouts over 47 2/3 innings.
Angels record sweep over M’s
Los Angeles prevailed 6-3 at home Sunday afternoon to win its third straight in an emotion-filled series against Seattle. Matt Thaiss helped lead the Angels offense as he finished 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two runs and three RBIs. Kole Calhoun was 1-for-3 with a solo homer, a walk and two runs. Shohei Ohtani went 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Mike Trout left the game after one at-bat with hamstring tightness and is questionable for tonight. Ty Buttrey picked up the win in relief as he struck out two in a perfect inning of work. Hansel Robles earned the save as he gave up one hit with two strikeouts in a scoreless frame. Griffin Canning draws the start tonight as he comes in with a 3-5 record, 4.43 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with 69 strikeouts over 65 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Houston
The Astros are 9-3 in their last 12 games overall. Houston is 21-7 in the last 28 meetings in LA.
Los Angeles
The Angels are 5-0 in their last five series openers. Los Angeles is 5-2 in its last seven home games versus a right-handed starter.
Prediction:
Los Angeles is coming off a fantastic series against Seattle with a combined no-hitter on the night they honored Tyler Skaggs, while they won the next day as well on what would have been Skaggs’ 28th birthday. I think the Angels can keep it going here as Canning has mostly been very good in his rookie campaign aside from a start or two. Houston had to travel last night, while LA stayed in the comforts of its own homes. I like the hosts to get the job done here.
